California does Nothing while Fire Insurance Policies are Cancelled or Have Outrageous Increases
California sits back and does absolutely nothing while its rural residents are having outrageous increases in their fire insurance rates or they are getting canceled.
My fire insurance rates have gone from $1200 a year 3 years ago to $3500 a year completely unchecked. Many of my neighbors are having their fire insurance cancelled.
There is no legislation to prevent Insurers from raising rates unchecked. There is no legislation to stop policies from being cancelled due to risk. There is no assigned risk program. There is absolutely nothing being done about it.
Things to Ponder
The California legislators are sitting on their ass passing legislation on straws and cups. They sit idly by while PG&E raises utility rates by $323 million dollars and then pay over $225 million in employee bonuses while mountain communities are burning down. Legislators are passing bills to prevent a person from running for President to be put on the ballot unless they release their tax returns.
Meanwhile, Fuel costs at the pump have increased from 2.90 a gallon in February to 4.09 a gallon in May. They are spending billions of tax-payer dollars on a train to nowhere. They are allowing unchecked immigration flowing across the border. They are giving free food, housing and medical to these people. They are wanting to further increase taxes (Sales tax) because the money they just gouged us for last November isn’t enough to fix the roads. They want to eliminate proposition 13 because they want more property tax money. They are going to limit water to 55 gallons a day per person so then can tax the hell out of it and charge excessive rates for anyone who violates the usage quota.
California has put outrageous restrictions on 2nd Amendment Rights.
The Fire Problem – Taxes and Insurance
California has buried the issue on what to do about fires. They have no plan to help rural communities prepare for these types of events. There has been no investment in evacuation routes. There has been no education for the residents. Meanwhile people who own homes in these areas are seeing un-affordable fire insurance rate increases that are pricing them out of their homes. People can’t get fire insurance and have to go to the state and get structure protection only for outrageous rates. It doesn’t cover contents or emergency living expenses. All of this is going on while the legislators sit on their ass and do nothing. They wonder why people are thinking about moving.
The liberals in charge haven’t a clue on how to run the state or deal with the issues that effect the tax payers. They are more concerned with housing for the homeless (which refuse to work) or welfare for illegals (which broke the law getting here) or medicare for all (with no way to pay for it) all because it sounds popular.
Hanging on by a thread
We are hanging on by a thread in these rural communities. The cost of commuting and all of the taxes and high insurance rates living in the mountains is getting us. We are on the edge like many who will survive – but our survival will mean leaving the areas we love to live in – and with that, the tax base will begin to evaporate in California.
It is time our legislators start working on things that matter – but again their focus is on free stuff for everyone on the backs of the hardworking Americans that live here.
Know your fire zoning. I knew my fire zoning and the Insurance Company changed me from a Zone 4 to a Zone 9 to increase the rate. I challenged this – It took several weeks and the involvement from the Fire Department and my Insurance Agent. I live 1 mile from a staffed fire department 24/7 and 994 feet from a fire hydrant. These things I knew and I knew my zone however I had to get the Local Fire Department and my insurance in the loop. The Fire Department had to send the Insurance Company a letter with the showed I complied with the Zone 4 Zoning.
I believe this is a ploy by insurance companies because most people roll-over and pay the bill. Nobody fights because they are afraid of cancellation. In the mean-time Insurance companies reap huge profits and they will never-ever lower your bill. I can still get cancelled – but most insurance companies will insure a property in zone 4 vs Zone 9. (Zone 9 has no staffed Fire Department -or you are out of the 5 mile Zone). Something else I found out – My deductible is $1000 and by raising it to $5000 it would cut our rate an additional $500 per year.
Anyway – hard work pays off. Saved $1000 a year on insurance – Still got a rate increase of 10 percent but I will take that with the recent rash of fires in California.
