A Relief That 2024 is Ending

As 2024 draws to a close, many of us breathe a collective sigh of relief. This year has been one of the most difficult in my adult life, particularly in the political realm. The challenges felt insurmountable at times: a President visibly struggling with cognitive decline, a Vice President lacking competence, and a White House marred by corruption. The justice system often felt weaponized, and the legacy media seemed to distort the truth at every turn. For four years, we witnessed a government both in California and Washington, D.C., repeatedly misleading the American people. Revelations of corruption within the Biden family, including the pardoning of his son for serious offenses, compounded the disillusionment.

Social and Economic Turmoil

The year brought immense social upheaval. In sports, policies permitting transgender athletes to compete in women’s leagues led to injuries, privacy concerns, and eroded fairness. Inflation spiraled out of control, especially in California, where policies like “Newsomomics” and “Bidenomics” further strained household budgets. Grocery, gas, and utility prices soared to record highs, leaving many struggling to make ends meet.

The open border crisis reached a boiling point, with increased crime attributed to illegal immigrants and gangs eroding the safety we once took for granted. Meanwhile, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives appeared to prioritize identity over merit, leading to widespread dissatisfaction in industries and academia alike. Thankfully, some companies began rejecting DEI policies as counterproductive, signaling a potential return to valuing skills and qualifications.

The Impact on Everyday Life

In California, new regulations banning small internal combustion engines disrupted daily life. From lawn mowers to generators, residents now face higher costs and fewer choices. The state’s looming 2035 ban on gasoline vehicles adds to this burden, compounded by skyrocketing gas prices and surging utility rates. Homeowners faced devastating insurance cancellations, driving premiums to unaffordable levels. Personally, these financial pressures forced me out of retirement, taking on part-time work to cover basic expenses. In California, it seems, retirement is no longer an option for many.

A Glimmer of Hope

Despite these challenges, there were moments of progress. In California, over 70% of voters supported Proposition 36, a tough-on-crime bill aimed at addressing rampant drug abuse and shoplifting. This represents a shift towards restoring safety and accountability, though systemic issues remain. Notably, ten California counties turned red in the last election, sparking hope for future political change.

Looking Ahead to 2025

With 2025 on the horizon, there is renewed optimism for America. The inauguration of President Trump in January signals potential shifts in policy and governance. Key priorities include securing the border, removing restrictive fuel regulations, and overturning California’s electric vehicle mandate. Lowering taxes, restoring military strength, and addressing Social Security’s solvency are also on the agenda.

The cultural pendulum seems poised to swing back towards common sense. Policies banning harmful gender-transition procedures for minors are gaining traction. A renewed emphasis on truth, justice, and meritocracy could mark the end of the divisive “Them-They” era. For the first time in years, there is hope for a unified America where personal freedom is respected but not imposed on others.

2024 was a year of immense challenges, but it has also fostered resilience and determination among everyday Americans. As we step into 2025, there is much to be hopeful for: lower energy costs, stronger national security, and a government that prioritizes its citizens. While the road ahead won’t be easy, I believe the United States can once again shine as a beacon of greatness for the world. Hope is the foundation, and with hope, anything is possible.
